Rayland Baxter – February 28th – Bluebird Theater

Estimated read time 3 min read

Last Thursday night Rayland Baxter sold-out The Bluebird Theater. While the crowd wasn’t exactly the most attentive, I’ll chalk it up to the kids getting amped for the weekend. The 20-something guys and their girlfriends downed the double Jack & Gingers and chatted loudly as their weeks slowly moved toward the rear-view mirror.

Jason Isbell – September 3rd – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 2 min read

Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit rolled into Red Rocks for what was to be a great Labor Day celebration. The tour is supported by Isbell’s wife, Amanda Shires, and Aimee Mann, who both made note worthy marks on the night. Despite the crowd looking like they had had an exhausting holiday weekend, they were full of energy and extremely responsive; often times the only thing you could hear during the performance was the sound of people singing along like a chorus in church.

When Jason Isbell took the stage at Red Rocks everyone in attendance knew we were in for a special evening, but what the master song-smith and his band delivered over the course of nearly two hours was one of the most profoundly moving events of the summer. Simply put, this show had it all and, judging by the crowd’s passionate response to each and every song and their willingness to sing-along with every couplet of the evening, Mr. Isbell and his band will be back on The Rocks one day. That day can’t come soon enough.

Jason Isbell – December 10th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 6 min read

Twenty minutes before the doors of The Ogden opened, the line to get in already stretched down the street and around the corner and air was buzzing with excitement. Once inside, grey hair peppered the room as 60 and 70 somethings who had probably seen Dylan or Cash in their prime jockeyed for position at the bar next to fresh young faces who will surely be telling their children that they saw Jason Isbell in his.
