Billy & The Kids – July 13th – Red Rocks Amphitheater

Estimated read time 4 min read

Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann put together his Billy and The Kids project back in 2014 for Warren Haynes’ Christmas Jam and while the band played a smattering of shows over the next two years they hadn’t played together since 2016 when the took to a Hawaiian lawn in May for a pair of live-streamed show to celebrate the legendary drummer’s 75th birthday. Joining original “Kids” Tom Hamilton, Reed Mathis, and Aron Magner for these shows was Billy Strings on guitar, and James Casey on Sax. The shows were an overwhelming success and it came as a welcome surprise when Red Rocks announced a pair of concerts with the same powerhouse line-up.

Dead and Company – July 5th – Folsom Field

Estimated read time 5 min read

When Bob Weir and the crew rolled in Boulder on Thursday afternoon, it was a scorcher. Folks walking Shakedown were mopping sweat from their brows as they perused booth after booth of stickers, bootleg shirts, heady veggie burrittos, and my personal favorite Philafel with Hummus. While it wasn’t quite as extensive as the Shakedown at Phish Dick’s, it was quite a scene and warmed us all up nicely (pun intended) for the evening.

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead – August 31st – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

In stark contrast to the last time JRAD was supposed to play Red Rocks, the weather on Thursday as the show approached was a perfect late Summer Colorado day. The lots were hopping early, and the show was very obviously the go-to pre-party for the annual “Phish Dicks” Labor Day celebration across town at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. As Phishheads and Deadheads rubbed shoulders in the amphitheater, to say the energy and anticipation was high would be an understatement – the place was buzzing.

John Hiatt & Taj Mahal – August 13th – Chautauqua Auditorium

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Chautauqua Auditorium never fails to set its own tone with each event it hosts. The historic building is set in the shadow of the Flatirons and packs a visual wow factor as you amble up the hill to the door, but then drives it home as you take your seat and absorb all the warm, wood ambiance that is standard show experience in the 116 year old structure. This line-up of the Taj Mahal Trio and John Hiatt & The Combo was a true whopper and, as you can imagine, the show was sold-out.
