Billy Strings – December 13th & 14th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

This past weekend, the Denver music community helped usher one of the best young players in the country to the next level. Back in September, when it was announced that Billy Strings would be playing two nights at The Ogden, the buzz was deafening but people were initially skeptical that he would sell out both shows. Well, tickets went on sale and disappeared so quickly that AEG added a third night and, guess what, those vanished as well. In mere minutes, Strings sold out three nights at the venerable Colfax theater.

Railroad Earth – September 18th – Red Rocks

Estimated read time 4 min read

There’s magic in the air when Railroad Earth comes to town. Last September the band produced a sweeping live film of their performance at Red Rocks Amphitheater. Needless to say it was a monumental show and this year would be hard pressed to surpass the energy and set list from the show that made fans swoon. Anytime you get to hear Railroad Earth play two sets it’s a special experience for the band and attendees but the 2014 Red Rocks set a standard that is difficult to match.

Jimmy Cliff – July 28th – Botanic Gardens

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Botanic Gardens remained dry last Monday night when they played host to a sold-out crowd and one of the most passionate and soulful performers to ever come out of Jamaica: Mr. Jimmy Cliff. As is typical at The Gardens there were lavish spreads of rich creamy cheeses, perfectly ripe fruit, cured meats and of course wine, oh how the wine flows at The Gardens. It’s safe to say the crowd was in the palm of Cliff’s hand from the get-go but the legend never took it for granted and poured his heart and soul into every moment of the 75 minute set.

Widespread Panic – June 28th – Red Rocks

Estimated read time 5 min read

Panic took a hiatus last year and, as a result, skipped their annual run of shows at Red Rocks, but they made up for this year by adding a fourth night to their standard three day run. Friday night of this run was the band’s 40th consecutive sell-out at the lauded amphitheater and while there was no special fanfare from the band celebrating the occasion Mother Nature let us know she appreciated the occasion with one of the most dazzling displays of lighting ever seen from Red Rocks.

Widespread Panic – Wood

Estimated read time 3 min read

In the midst of their hiatus, Widespread Panic dropped a two disc live album that pulls together material from their four city tour that took place earlier this year…and it’s a real change of pace for the kings of Southern Jam Rock. In the place of thunderous Bass bombs, scorching lead Guitar riffs, and volume knobs turned to eleven, ‘Wood’ showcases their softer side as it chronicles the group’s first ever fully acoustic tour in all it’s glory.
