Hiss Golden Messenger – March 4th – Bluebird Theater

Estimated read time 3 min read

Finally! I finally got to catch a full band Hiss Golden Messenger show! I’ve been a fan of this band for a long time, and the last few time MC Taylor and his band have been through Denver our schedules haven’t aligned. I got to see Taylor play a solo show at Union Station a few years back, and that was a very special show but I was longing for the big, full sound of the band and I was not disappointed!

Widespread Panic – June 26th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

The tradition of the Sunday afternoon matinee as a grand finale to Widespread Panic’s annual Red Rocks stand is damn near timeless and, this past Sunday, the band and their fans proved why yet again. Beach balls bounced around a hot and sweaty crowd that smelled like “ladies lying in the sun” due to all the sunscreen applied to fend off the baking mid-day sun, and there was a carefree, beach party attitude in the air.

Disco Biscuits – April 15th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 6 min read

Heading into this four night run of Disco Biscuit shows, rumors were swirling (and later confirmed) that heavy practice hours were being logged both back in Philadelphia and out here in Colorado. This led fans to be optimistic that the band would not show the signs of rust that has traditionally accompanied them the first nights of recent runs. These dreams were realized right from the get-go as the Philly based quartet kicked off their four night run in style with an above average show on Wednesday night.

20 Questions with Ignatius Reilly

Estimated read time 4 min read

The best music is made collaboratively. Though new talent pops up regularly, it seems like bands that make the quickest movement to the spotlight are the Frankenstein bands–we all know them. Some are more regular than others. Certainly, every once in a while a musician happens upon another musician, and together they make something that is a graduated version of what they each made alone. When four experienced, talented and well-seasoned musicians come together in this way, you end up with a band like Ignatius Reilly.

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers – April 19th – 1stBank Center

Estimated read time 5 min read

Ah, classic rock, it just has this way of bringing people together. Last Thursday the 1stBank Center was a melting pot of Denver demographics as couples in their 50’s jammed in next to guys in their 20’s along the rail right in front of Tom Petty’s mic stand to hear him sing classics like “Refugee,” “Here Comes My Girl,” and “Free Fallin’.” It was a testament to the longevity of this 61 year old rocker and his band that even after all these years, he is bringing new fans to the party while he keeps the older ones coming back for more.
