Elephant Revival – December 4th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

The Ogden was filled with flannel and beards for the opening night of a two night homecoming for Colorado’s own Elephant Revival — quite the feat for a band from the tiny mountain town of Nederland. The group expanded their whimsical folk music into extended bluegrass jams and topped everything off with aerialists twirling from ribbons strung above the packed crowd.

Joe Pug – April 3rd – Bluebird Theater

Estimated read time 3 min read

A healthy crowd filled the Bluebird Theater on Friday for Austin singer-songwriter Joe Pug’s show at the venerated venue. Thirty-somethings clad in flannel were spirited but respectful during a set that ventured back and forth from intimate to full-pelt. Between laughs, Pug fit in plenty of his older favorites like “I Do My Father’s Drugs,” “Nation of Heat,” and “Hymn #35” as well as some new songs from last month’s ‘Windfall.’

PICK OF THE WEEK: Joe Pug – Bluebird Theater – Friday, April 3rd

Estimated read time 2 min read

Joe Pug has collected plenty of the requisite Dylan comparisons over his young career but on his new record it’s easier to hear the sway of more contemporary influences like Josh Ritter, Ryan Adams and M.Ward. The Austin, TX singer songwriter has made a habit of defying expectations so the piano-driven “Bright Beginnings” and the atmospheric rumination of “Great Hosannas” are just further indication that he’s quite comfortable stepping outside of the guy-with-a-guitar trappings of the genre.

Estimated read time 2 min read

It’s been more than 5 years since Joe Pug quit his day job as a carpenter, but his remarkable rise in the music world has been driven by the same hard-worn work ethic. His path has been an unusual one, which has often challenged the traditional rulebook of the music industry, but it has always been characterized by one prevailing idea: Find a way. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of this amazing grass roots movement this Friday at the Larimer Lounge!

Joe Pug and Anais Mitchell & Jefferson Hamer – May 23rd – eTown Hall

Estimated read time 4 min read

eTown Hall, the home base of the nationally syndicated eTown radio broadcast, was the scene of yet another outstanding pair of artists last month, Joe Pug and Anais Mitchell. Neither artist is a stranger to Colorado, but seeing them on the same stage back-to-back, with interviews in the mix, made for an extra special show for no more than 200 lucky fans.

Joe Pug & The Lumineers – May 12th – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 6 min read

When all was said and done, The Lumineers, Joe Pug, and Bailiff turned in a fantastic night of music at The Bluebird last Saturday. From early in the night, The Bluebird was packed with a wide variety of music fans. There were grey hairs who looked a little overwhelmed at the size, and density, of the crowd, hipsters doing their best to look as cool as possible, industry folks, a few hippies blowing smoke at the ceiling, and a healthy number of late 20 and 30 something couples out for a musical date night. It’s safe to say that everyone went home happy.
