Billy Joel – September 16th – Pepsi Center

Billy Joel played an enchanting show this past Wednesday night at the Pepsi Center. The New-York bred musician brought together people of all ages who could be heard cheering and swooning like preteens at a Taylor Swift concert. The scene was pleasant and filled with people who were giddy to see the wonderful Entertainer. It was truly a night to remember, filled with classics and goosebumps galore. If you haven’t seen Billy Joel in concert, put it on your bucket list!

Widespread Panic – October 31st – 1stBank Center

Halloween and the Jamband world are a perfect marriage and Friday night at the 1stBank Center proved that yet again. With Widespread Panic bringing their famed Halloween spectacle to Colorado for the first time in their storied history, the freaks were out in force and it was a beautiful sight! Costumes of all shapes and sizes milled around outside while inside the air was electric with anticipation for a show that featured several debut covers and bust-outs galore over the course of more than three hours of inspired playing.

Old Crow Medicine Show – July 16th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

The rain persisted throughout the day but the fans endured the weather and filed into Red Rocks for Old Crow Medicine Show. Old Crow made an appearance at Red Rocks last summer as openers for two sold-out nights with the Avett Brothers and this year they had their own sold out, one night event. With bodies covered with ponchos, umbrellas dripping from the down pour, bare feet thumbing and smiles radiating from underneath rain soaked hair, no one seemed bothered enough to stall the shindig.

Arcade Fire – April 23rd – Pepsi Center

Last Wednesday, Arcade Fire fans turned the Pepsi Center into a Masquerade Ball of monster proportions. For the 10 thousand or so that turned out, it was clear they had been waiting for the evening for a long time. Thousands of fans were decked out in their best formal attire and costumes as the band had requested on the ticket and in the end it made for a much more festive night and proved to the doubters that Arcade Fire fans can dress to impress.

President Obama & Dave Matthews – November 4th – Community College of Aurora

Last night, President Obama staged his last Colorado campaign rally before tomorrow’s election. From seniors to little kids in strollers, more than 20,000 Coloradans of all races packed the quad at the Community College of Aurora for well over 3 hours as Senators Bennet and Udal, and Governor Hickenlooper kept spirits high before Dave Matthews took the stage for a relatively short acoustic set that preceded Obama’s remarks.

Tenacious D – July 26th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Last week, thousands of Comic-Con faithful, metalheads, frat boy rock fans, and other interested observers descended on Red Rocks when Tenacious D brought their tunes and live band to the famed amphitheater. It was a date that the band and fans alike had “circled on their calendar” and the performance was a memorable one that featured tight musicianship, numerous comedic interludes, and a set list that spanned the group’s past decade of crude, hooky songs.

20 Questions With MTHDS

Denver’s MTHDS are reviving their Beastie Boys tribute show this week in honor of Adam “MCA” Yauch who passed away in early May and they took some time to answer our “20 Questions” as they prepped for the show. One read through this exchange and you’ll get a feel for what a witty, sarcastic bunch of guys that make up this group. From comparing themselves to The Partridge Family to claiming that John Denver is one of the best local bands on the scene right now, it’s clear that one of the only these guys take seriously is their music.

JJ Grey and Mofro & Toots and The Maytalls – April 13th – The Fillmore Auditorium

The Fillmore Auditorium was filled with soul on Friday night and a crowd made up of everyone under the sun got to hear it from two very different sources. First, 67 year old roots/ska reggae legend Toots Hibbert gave it to us from a Jamaican standpoint, and then JJ Grey and Mofro brought their own version from the Deep South. Both singer’s had thick accents when they spoke, and their vernacular added to the authenticity of the night.
