Rocky Mountain Folks Festival – August 14th, 15th & 16th – Lyons, CO
Ah, the sweet memory of August days spent by a babbling river in Lyons Colorado. This isn’t just a locals festival, it’s a worldwide calling. People drive up from Denver for the weekend, fly in from out of state, and even from out of the country just for this event. In many ways it’s the highlight of many people’s summers and this year’s festival again demonstrated why this festival has worked it’s way into the hearts and minds of so many.
The Last Waltz Revisited – November 27th – Ogden Theatre
The Ogden Theatre was sold-out for the 9th annual The Last Waltz Revisited concert last Wednesday. The Thanksgiving eve tradition is highly anticipated each year, and 2013 was no exception. Smiles abounded with warm hugs being exchanged and old friends reuniting as the venue filled up before the show. Hosted each year by Polytoxic members CR Gruver and Tori Pater, all in all more than 40 musicians graced the stage as they took part in the reenactment of one of the most famous concerts in Rock and Roll history.

Rock & Roll and Hollywood entered the 60s on shaky ground but they emerged from the decade basking in that rosy glow, a rosy glow you too can experience from the Cultureplex rooftop of the Sie FilmCenter as the sun sets over Denver. This month’s artists will take you back to the decade that defined more than one generation of music lovers and film buffs.
Polytoxic’s Last Waltz Revisited VIII – November 21st – The Ogden
Polytoxic’s Annual Last Waltz Revisited is a Denver Thanksgiving tradition that was especially tasty this year. The Ogden was sold-out and filled with an energy that pulsed with love for the music of The Band on Thanksgiving Eve as four generations of audience members sang along to songs that have become ingrained in the fabric of our lives. Parents put their arms around their children, friends hugged each other in the middle of songs and people felt some of their favorite music in a way few get to experience.
PICK OF THE WEEK: Polytoxic’s The Last Waltz Revisited – The Ogden Theatre – November 21st
Back in 2005, Polytoxic wanted to put on a show that could showcase all the great local musicians they had been playing with over the years. Turns out their idea was such a success that this year marks the 8th anniversary of Polytoxic’s “Last Waltz Revisited,” featuring over 30 songs from The Band’s extensive catalog. The concert has become a tradition here on the Front Range. Don’t miss it!
Anais Mitchell’s ‘Young Man In America’ Is A Literary & Musical Powerhouse Of An Album
Last year, Colorado folk music fans had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with Anais Mitchell’s music. In April she opened up for Graham Nash and David Crosby at The Paramount Theatre, late summer brought her to the mainstage of The Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, and Swallow Hill Music Association presented her “Folk-Opera” Hadestown in October. Her new album, Young Man in America, will be released on February 28th.

CR Gruver Continues A Colorado Thanksgiving Tradition With The Seventh Edition Of The Last Waltz Revisited
On Thanksgiving Day in 1976, a coked-up film director who had just scored massive success with his films “Mean Streets” and “Taxi Driver,” stepped away from the cityscape of New York and traveled to the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco to train his lens on a band for the first time. Over the course of a nine-hour event, he helped to close one chapter of rock and roll, and to ultimately define every rock movie that ever followed.
