PICK OF THE WEEK: Other Worlds – Lost Lake – Thursday, May 12

Parts Rock n’ Roll, Psychedelia, and Americana – Denver band Other Worlds formed in early 2014 as an experiment; a collaboration by five longtime members of the Colorado music community with a shared desire to take a new musical direction. The group began life affectionately referred to as “Secret Band,” a moniker given to the band as a cover while the vision for the project was established.

Eric Halborg is certainly no stranger to the Denver music scene. For the past ten plus years his band The Swayback has been defying expectations and genre classifications. When an opportunity arose for Halborg to do something different he dove into the new project that would become Dragondeer with the same eclectic zeal that The Swayback has championed for years. From a basement on Broadway to the stages of Red Rocks and South By Southwest, in two years the Blues group has exploded in popularity.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. – March 8th – Bluebird Theater

A sold out sea of early twentysomethings filled the dance floor of the Bluebird this past Saturday night for indie-pop outfit Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. The night was full of bubbles, blinking lights, catchy, feel good music, and plenty of dancing. To top it all off it ended down the block at Lost Lake with a packed, booze drenched, dance party that featured a lengthy DJ set from Daniel Zott and Joshua Epstein that had the dive bar dancing until daylight savings sprung the clocks forward.

Lord Huron – February 21st – Ogden Theatre

The Ogden Theatre was sold-out Friday night for the return of Los Angeles’ Indie Folk rockers Lord Huron. It was the band’s second trip to Colorado in five months after opening for Alt-J last September. The night had moments of both ethereal wonder and musical celebration as a good mix of twentysomethings filled the floor, aisles and stairways and the room buzzed the way only a Friday night show can. Despite flat sets in the past, Lord Huron finally delivered a performance that matched the beauty of their record.
