Turns out their idea was such a success that this year marks the 8th anniversary of Polytoxic’s “Last Waltz Revisited,” featuring over 30 songs from The Band’s extensive catalog. On Thanksgiving Day in 1976, a coked-up film director who had just scored massive success with his films “Mean Streets” and “Taxi Driver,” stepped away from the cityscape of New York and traveled to the Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco to train his lens on a band for the first time. Over the course of a nine-hour event, he helped to close one chapter of rock and roll, and to ultimately define every rock movie that ever followed.

Welton Street was literally buzzing with electricity Friday night. The sound was coming from the huge mobile production trailer parked outside of Cervantes Other Side. It was the first night of The Band Of Heathens “Double Down in Denver” spectacle, and they didn’t hold back. It was a fantastic night of real beer soaked roots rock, combined with the laid back vibe of 1970’s Laurel Canyon, right here in Five Points.
