Joe Russo on Navigating the Pandemic and JRAD’s Return to the 1stBank Center

After cancelling their Red Rocks show that was scheduled for early June, Joe Russo didn’t think he would get to bring his Grateful Dead Project, JRAD to Colorado in 2021. Fortunately that changed recently and the band will take the stage at the 1stBank Center for the second time.

The Motet – July 22nd – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

While there were some ominous clouds hanging over Red Rocks as we climbed the stairs, and the sky opened up and lightning slashed across the sky stalling our entrance, it couldn’t put a damper on possibly the best overall bill at Red Rocks this summer. Even though we were momentarily barred entrance and in limbo on the stairs, everybody was in high spirits. When we finally got in we were treated to a spectacular double rainbow off to the west over directly over the stage. What does it all mean? It meant a golden night for Colorado music!

One of the most anticipated tours of the Fall concert season was a visit from The Word this past weekend. Made up of John Medeski, pedal steel ambassador Robert Randolph and The North Mississippi Allstars (Luther Dickinson, Cody Dickinson and Chris Chew) and first conceived of by John and MMW in 1998 while on tour with The North Mississippi Allstars, The Word is one of the rarest of musical showcases and provides a unique glimpse into Gospel, Sacred Steel and Soul realms that shine in a live setting.

Ah, the sweet memory of August days spent by a babbling river in Lyons Colorado. This isn’t just a locals festival, it’s a worldwide calling. People drive up from Denver for the weekend, fly in from out of state, and even from out of the country just for this event. In many ways it’s the highlight of many people’s summers and this year’s festival again demonstrated why this festival has worked it’s way into the hearts and minds of so many.

Crashing into the local music scene like a wild animal, Tiger Party is the latest and greatest Electro/Funk/Jam superband to spring up in Denver. The “collaborative music project” is an amalgamation of influences and talents.
