Guns N’ Roses – August 2nd – Sports Authority Field at Mile High

Estimated read time 5 min read

Wednesday night at Mile High there was an interesting mix of long term G N’ R fans, middle aged music fans and suburbanites dressed for a night on the town. Watching these guys, who once defined American 80’s rock and roll excess, it is hard to imagine they’re in their 50’s. While they may not still be writing anthems like Paradise City or Welcome To The Jungle, they sure can perform them and delight their fans with a true rock and roll show.

Do you remember a time when you cranked the stereo up as loud as you could get away with to drown out the world and wallow in your teen angst? A time when Motley Crue was shouting at the devil because Satan could no longer hear them, having been deafened by the emergence of thrash metal? Two of the genre’s biggest names, Slayer and Anthrax, invaded the Fillmore and it was one hell of a night!

Mesh-backed hats, cowboy boots and camouflage covered Country fans flocked to Fiddler’s Green for the first night of country megastar Zac Brown’s two night run last Friday. In the shadow of Coors Field, and just down the street from the Denver Rescue Mission lies the Marquis Theater. Maybe it is good that the Denver Rescue Mission promises in neon that “God Saves”, because promoter Soda Jerk Presents keeps booking a steady stream of the Devils Music at the Marquis. Tonight’s bill of MF Ruckus and Metalachi would be no exception. Jesus or Satan, Heaven or Hell, the choice is yours in LoDo

The energy was palpable in The Ogden Theatre last Monday when the lights went down. It was clear that the cold temps didn’t stop 20 and 30 somethings from all walks of life from showing up to show their support for the hard charging alternative metal band Stone Sour and their “House of Gold and Bones Tour – Part 2.” People used their fingers to form devil horns and raised them high and proud in the air as the energized audience was almost foaming at the mouth and ready to rock!

Passion Pit “Special DJ Set” – January 25th – Summit Music Hall

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Summit Music Hall filled to a healthy level fairly early last Saturday as fans of Massachusetts-based Indietronica group Passion Pit gathered to see what their “Special DJ Set” was all about. Unfortunately, the set, which consisted of two members of the group DJing, fell short on many fans’ expectations–an evening of Deep House is hardly what someone sees when they read the words “Passion Pit Special DJ Set” on a ticket. The music was great if you are into House music, but in some way, the whole evening seemed to be a bit of a ruse.
