Jack Johnson – August 18th – Red Rocks

Estimated read time 1 min read

Jack Johnson’s tour in support of his #1 album, “From Here To Now To You,” would not be complete without a stop at America’s greatest venue, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, so the singer dutifully played for a sold-out audience last Monday. Alabama Shakes – March 9th – The Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

When Brittany Howard and the rest of Alabama Shakes walked out onto the stage the Ogden simply exploded in deafening cheers and, as the band tore into “Hang Loose” from their 2012 debut album Boys & Girls, those cheers morphed into a chorus of voices singing along in unison. From start to finish, Alabama Shakes delivered a set that was a moving and powerful reminder of just how good they really are at delivering Blues soaked Garage Soul music that soaks in deep and satisfies nearly every primal craving.

PICK OF THE WEEK: Alabama Shakes & Michael Kiwanuka – The Ogden Theatre – March 9th

Estimated read time 2 min read

Alabama Shakes not-so-subtle blend of fiery Blues-Bock and hard-hitting Southern Soul has drawn comparisons to the Black Keys, the Drive-By Truckers, and even Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings. Michael Kiwanuka’s acoustic Blues-Folk sound and timeless soulful voice has been favorably compared with the likes of Curtis Mayfield and Van Morrison. This is a must see show!

When Kiwanuka strummed the final note of a song, the audience gave a polite pause to make sure he was done, and then whistled, cheered and clapped at a volume we didn’t expect for a Tuesday night show.
