Justin Townes Earle – June 16th – Mishawaka Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

The snowmelt-filled Poudre River roared down the canyon and behind the stage at the scenic Mishawaka Amphitheatre last Saturday night. The crowd of college kids, older cowboys and mountain men and their sundress clad girlfriends showed up early to enjoy beer and a nice summer evening. The rugged stage and buildings that surrounded it looked and smelled like the dinning hall at a summer camp with a little less bug spray and a lot more beer.

Chris Robinson Brotherhood – July 13th – Cervantes’ Ballroom

Estimated read time 5 min read

Friday night at Cervantes’ with Chris Robinson’s new band? Yes please . . . these two things seem like they fit hand in hand. While the show was mellower than expected, that wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. The band put together two sets of music that showcased their skill and range as artists as they drew on tunes from their recent album, an upcoming one, and of course a few tunes recorded by The Black Crowes. In the end, it was a fun night of music orchestrated by one of the masters of his genre.

All throughout the night, the energy swelled as Bruce Hornsby and The Noisemakers filled the air with lively and passionate music. Each member of the six-piece ensemble was given ample time to display their talents despite sharing the stage with such a gifted and accomplished artist. Even though each individual solo was well played and well received, nothing was more impressive than the sum total of all the parts on stage. The generosity and humility displayed by Bruce is part of what makes him so much fun to see.
