Last Tuesday night, Denver Botanic Gardens played host to a true legend of the songwriting world, Mr. John Hiatt. Hiatt, who was one of the pioneers who broke down the barriers between Country, Rock, and Pop, has been producing consistently strong material since his first release way back in 1974 and he proved he can still command attention with just an acoustic guitar, a harmonica, and his voice.

In celebration of the Fox Theatre’s 25th anniversary the entire month of March has featured the best series of concerts the legendary venue has booked in a long, long time. Wednesday night was every bit as momentous when the North Mississippi Allstars brought their delta blues soaked rock-n-roll to the party. Shortly after doors, the fire department came screaming up to the front of the venue, No, the Fox didn’t burn down, but all fans could think walking in was “the Dickinson brothers sound-check was THAT hot?!?!”

The 23rd annual Telluride Blues & Brews festival took over Telluride Town Park this year with one of the best line-ups in it’s history. Right from the get-go things were on fire on the brand new Fred Shellman Memorial Stage with the Telluride debut of Con Brio showcasing one of the more talked about sets of the weekend. From the first notes to the last, this festival was one for the ages!

The annual Tedeschi-Trucks Band headlining show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre is marked on many calendar’s months in advance and, with openers including North Mississippi Allstars and Los Lobos, there was no way this night would disappoint. The only thing weighing down the good vibes among the crowd were the looming clouds and forecast for a rainy night. Fortunately, the clouds were soon forgotten and the good vibes sent any chance of rain far away.

Fourteen years may have passed between albums, but that’s no suggestion of broken bonds. Nor of broken strings. A love of music, of extended improvisational collaboration, of closing the eyes and channeling the feel—these are the ties that bind THE WORD.

The setting of the North Mississippi Allstars show at The Ogden last Saturday was straight out of a concert hall from the late ’70s. People were ready to party, and party they did. This was a sweat-soaked, late summer showdown, that reeked of the muddy Mississippi. Sweat was flying, drinks were disappearing, and water was being poured on the front row. All in all, this was one of the most fun shows of the year, and it seemed everyone in the crowd was kicking back for some good ol’ Saturday night fun with Rock ‘n Roll.
