Run the Jewels – November 18th – Gothic Theatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

Hipsters and Hip-Hop kids alike quickly filled The Gothic last Tuesday night, and the room was mostly full for openers Despot (please release your album!) and Ratking. This crowd skewed closer to early twenties than the late thirties ages of headliner Run The Jewels’ El-P and Mike. This crowd was firedup, and well aware that they were about to witness one of the best shows of the year, Hip-Hop or otherwise.

Little Dragon – October 21st – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Ogden Theatre hosted a slice of the unconventional last week and it’s a shame if you missed it. The eccentric gathering of persons, with their platform shoes, glamour make-up and street style fashion were on a mission to witness the appearance and performance of the abstract musicians known as Little Dragon. Their spirited performance of unique Neo-Soul, heady Trip-Hop was an audio and visual treat for fans of the obscure and avant-garde band.

The Floozies & Manic Focus – December 14th – Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

The double feature of The Floozies and Manic Focus at the Bluebird Theater last Friday night led to a sold out show thanks to some last minute promoting by the GriZ family. There were few in the audience that had 21+ wristbands, which isn’t strange for these wompadelic shows. We all know that EDM is the outlet for the Y generation; however, this show brought even the youngest of the Z generation crawling to the front of the stage. Flat brimmed hats and glittered eyes were the staple of this evening’s attire.
