PICK OF THE WEEK: Dyrty Byrds – Oriental Theater – Saturday, March 19th

Estimated read time 2 min read

Leaving a trail of burned up bars and sweat soaked guitars since 2009, the Dyrty Byrds have shown no mercy in their pursuit of original guitar driven rock and roll. Tori Pater, Eric Martinez, Mike “Spanky” McCluer, and Andrew Clapp are a fourpiece rock band from Denver, CO that would fit as easily into the 1970’s classic/southern rock scene as they do in modern day American music.

The evening started with John Bell (JB) saying a few words about the Special Olympics before the four Colorado athletes competing this summer in Los Angeles were introduced on stage as torchbearers displayed the flame which was making it’s way through Colorado enroute to Los Angeles where the games will open on July 25th.

The Last Waltz Revisited – November 26th – Fillmore Auditorium

Estimated read time 5 min read

All the way back in 2005, Denver’s own Polytoxic started this tradition at the former Dulcinea’s 100th Monkey (now the 1UP-Colfax) just a half-block from the doors of The Fillmore. The boys brought up local musicians to help recreate The Band’s 1976 concert, The Last Waltz. It was the first such tribute for Denver and with so much success, Polytoxic started the Thanksgiving eve Tradition. Now, ten years later, after residencies at Cervantes’ and The Ogden, things have come almost full circle.

Polytoxic’s Last Waltz Revisited VIII – November 21st – The Ogden

Estimated read time 7 min read

Polytoxic’s Annual Last Waltz Revisited is a Denver Thanksgiving tradition that was especially tasty this year. The Ogden was sold-out and filled with an energy that pulsed with love for the music of The Band on Thanksgiving Eve as four generations of audience members sang along to songs that have become ingrained in the fabric of our lives. Parents put their arms around their children, friends hugged each other in the middle of songs and people felt some of their favorite music in a way few get to experience.
