RockyGrass – July 26, 27, 28 – Planet Bluegrass, Lyons

Estimated read time 1 min read

From the opening notes of I’m With Her to the Bluegrass not Bluegrass of Punch Brothers, RockyGrass was a joy. There were smiling faces, the rush of the St. Vrain, and the sights and smells of the vendor area. The workshops inside the Wildflower Pavilion created an intimacy with the crowd, while the many shades of ‘grass on the bill echoed through the canyon and brought out the dancing spirit in everyone.

The Punch Brothers – June 13th – Denver Botanic Gardens

Estimated read time 4 min read

Denver Botanic Gardens concerts are always a true marker of summer. The blossoms, the warm air, the threatening clouds, and the wine, oh the wine. There are very few summer traditions in this town that are more fun than packing up a picnic and some wine, and heading to the gardens for a show. For this one, Gaby Moreno and the Austin based David Garza set a very high bar as the openers, but it was one that the uniquely talented Punch Brothers cleared with grace.

It’s February and us Colorado locals are well into the routine of skiing, drinking whiskey and listening to Bluegrass in our ski gear. 20 Questions with Trout Steak Revival

Estimated read time 6 min read

If you love Rocky Mountain Bluegrass as much as we do, you’ve surely happened upon the skilled sounds of Trout Steak Revival. The quintet is making waves in our little pond with their elaborate harmonies, which are backed by strong instrumentation and impressive song writing abilities. While the group hails out of Denver, their music was inspired by what lies just beyond our city in the “misty high country” where they say the music was born. They started as an informal Bluegrass Jam group and have made huge leaps in years since.

Telluride Bluegrass Festival – June 19th-22nd – Telluride, CO

Estimated read time 14 min read

Telluride Bluegrass. Once you’ve been there, whether it’s for a day, a week, or forty consecutive years, it becomes part of you. It’s the smiles on the faces of the performers as they look out from the stage over the most beautiful landscape their songs and melodies have ever echoed across. It is the meticulous, almost anal-retentive, organization of the event that somehow translates to a vibe conducive to dancing and singing and a passionately laid-back attitude from some of the most fervent music lovers anywhere.
