Tennis – November 7th – Bluebird Theater

Estimated read time 4 min read

Denver band Tennis has seen the success of big stages, TV appearances, and critical acclaim, however their homecoming show Friday night at the Bluebird seemed to lack the same fanfare. The evening was a showcase of some great moments and great material but it didn’t quite reach the fever pitch you’d expect for a new album and a home audience. In fact, the experience was undermined at times by lackluster stage presence and muted fan enthusiasm.

Father John Misty – June 18th – Gothic Theatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

“We couldn’t quite fill that place, so we had to bring in a bus full of convicts to fill this show” Josh Tillman scoffed about the last minute move of his show from the Ogden to the Gothic this past Tuesday. Though a smaller venue, the large, gaudy psychedelic stage set framed by two giant disco balls fit just fine and twenty-somethings filled the room all the way to the back. Father John Misty’s sarcastic swagger, smooth voice, and flamboyant moves more than made up for a venue change and harsh sound, resulting in a fun evening, as always.
