Aqueous – December 7th – Old Town Pub, Steamboat Springs, CO

Estimated read time 1 min read

Last Friday night, the burgeoning young band Aqueous tore into Steamboat and delivered a scorching show in the intimate confines of The Old Town Pub. With a show that featured extended jam sequences that took us deep into the prog-funk dimensions that are home to this band, alongside crowd-pleasing covers of David Bowie’s “Fame” and Pink Floyd’s “Run Like Hell,” and teases of Dr. Dre, Rage Against The Machine, and Phish, the four-piece whipped the room into a frenzy as they played well past one AM.

Westword Music Showcase – June 23rd – The Golden Triangle

Estimated read time 7 min read

The 18th annual Westword Music Showcase took over Denver’s Golden Triangle on the 23rd as 15 venues hosted hundreds of local and national bands in the 104 degree heat. On the blacktopped area in front of the main stage, people’s shoes sizzled in the sun and the music was as hot as the pavement. We sweated, smiled and danced to a wide array of sounds. The nationally touring acts on the main stage added power to the event, and the energy Girl Talk put out at the end of the night nearly surged the grid.

Blitzen Trapper & Dawes – November 7th – The Fox Theatre

Estimated read time 8 min read

On Monday night at The Fox, LA band Dawes played one of the most impressive rock shows I have witnessed in years. No, they didn’t have the production value of Roger Waters’ “The Wall” performance or the raw, testosterone fueled, energy of a Rage Against The Machine show, but what they did have was a staggering amount of musical talent. It was simply overflowing from these four men as they put on a clinic on how to be the best band you can be.

Jane’s Addiction – The Great Escape Artist

Estimated read time 2 min read

Navarro’s guitar-god solos, Perkins’ trance inducing percussion, and Farrell’s erotic shaman-like vocals combine to create an album that nears the perfection of “Nothing’s Shocking.” Tracks “Irresistible Force,” “Splash a Little Water On It,” and “Words Right Out of My Mouth,” show how Jane’s, like the Doors before them, refuse to be mere entertainers and continue to push the boundaries of their music.
