Fishbone – August 15th, 2014 – Cervantes’ Other Side

Cervantes’ venues still bring the diverse and lively music scene to Five Points that author Jack Kerouac once visited the neighborhood for some sixty-seven years ago. On this night Fishbone provided the life, joy, kicks, and darkness that has long been the musical bloodline of Five Points. Between the swirling pit of moshers, the saxophones, trumpets, and blaring trombones, screaming guitars, thumping bass and bombastic drumming, the night was madness.

Reggae On The Rocks – August 25th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

This year was the 25th Anniversary of Reggae on the Rocks, and the enthusiastic crowd was a mass of colors, smoke and smiles. There aren’t many opportunities for Reggae fans to gather here in Colorado, but man, did they come out of the woodwork for this one! Jamaican colors were worn by those not from Jamaica, and brightly colored shirts, knit caps and guerilla bush fighter fatigues worn by those who were. Reggae is revolutionary music, a music that talks of pain as well as joy, a music that is also a form of prayer. Reggae is spiritual music.

O.A.R. – July 15th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Questionable cloudscapes passed overhead as the eclectic crowd of O.A.R. fans and Rebelutionists made their way up and into Red Rocks Amphitheatre Sunday night. The gray skies proved no match for the bright, positive vibes radiating from Red Rocks and rain ponchos became more of a fashion statement than a necessity. O.A.R. played a phenomenal set of crowd favorites including “That Was a Crazy Game of Poker” that saw thousands of playing cards rain down from the top of the amphitheatre.
