Brian Wilson and Chicago – June 23rd – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Last Thursday found Red Rocks hosting a night of nostalgia with mixed results. After set from a disturbingly detached Brian Wilson and his all-star band, Chicago came out with a commanding takeover of the vibe, and gave fans what they wanted – a set of classics that were delivered in surprisingly good form!

The Revivalists – June 10th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 2 min read

The Red Rocks faithful were treated to a NOLA take-over of sorts Friday night. After a limited capacity show last summer, The Revivalists made their triumphant return to live music’s greatest playground, and they brought Preservation Hall Jazz Band with them! The big easy was in full representation! Rounding out the bill was The Ghosts of Paul Revere who got to make their Red Rocks debut as they crisscross the county on what appears to be their final tour as a band.

Jason Isbell – May 4th – Red Rocks Amphitheater

Estimated read time 2 min read

Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit have become an institution at the greatest venue on earth, even requiring two nights this year at Red Rocks to satisfy the ticket demand. This year’s Wednesday night show was a spectacle from start to finish with hail that blended into rain before yielding to a double rainbow and finally perfect weather during the show. It was meant to be!

Nathaniel Rateliff – August 23rd – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 2 min read

In what was one of the most anticipated engagements of the summer, Nathaniel Rateliff finally performed his postponed run of three shows for enthusiastic fans at Red Rocks earlier this week. The fervor for these shows to finally come to fruition was shared by band and audience alike and the outpouring of joy was evident long before anyone took the stage.

Since Widespread Panic announced that their annual June run would return to Red Rocks in 2021 after the forced 2020 hiatus, the energy and excitement had steadily been building to a fever pitch. The Revivalists – June 10th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

The most obvious observation I pulled from last Thursday’s concert at Red Rocks was that people are jubilant to be free of quarantine and the isolation that we all just lived through. Folks are so glad to be back to regular life! All night long you could watch people stop dancing to turn around and absorb the massive audience they were a part of and realize they made it to the other side, Red Rocks was our collective reward.

Bob Weir & Wolf Bros – June 8th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

There was one line that was running through my head all night – and yes, it’s a little cheesy but I couldn’t shake it – Weir Back! From the opening notes of “New Speedway Boogie” it was apparent that not only were the Deadheads back in force, but so was Bobby. Looking to be in great shape both physically and vocally, Weir’s choice of songs to open his first show back from the pandemic was no happenstance as the opening trio all contained references to the odd year we’ve all endured together, and apart.

Vampire Weekend – October 9th – Red Rocks

Estimated read time 3 min read

After a long six years, Vampire Weekend returned to Colorado for two late season Red Rocks show this past week. Wednesday’s show was the second chance for fans to catch live versions from this year’s Father of the Bride, which were featured heavily among a total of 34 songs. The new album and their live shows have garnered comparisons to jam bands, which I’m not sure I completely see, but Wednesday was certainly a new Vampire Weekend compared to the band I had seen on previous tours.

Greensky Bluegrass – September 15th – Red Rocks

Estimated read time 8 min read

“Never miss a Sunday show.” It’s the age old Jamband adage that has been circulating through the scene for years and, while I’ve seen many Sunday shows over the years, until the past Sunday night when Greensky Bluegrass and Billy Strings played Red Rocks, I had never seen one that really proved the saying.

Last Tuesday one of the living legends of the guitar stopped into Red Rocks Amphitheatre in the midst of his Down The Road Wherever tour. Backed by a stunningly excellent band, Mark Knopfler was sounding as good as ever.
