Internationally acclaimed Mexican acoustic rock guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela brought their unique instrumental blend of metal, jazz and world music to a passionate Red Rocks audience last Sunday. Over the course of their nearly two hour performance, the pair debuted a number of pieces from their forthcoming album, “9 Dead Alive,” and welcomed Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo to the stage for a medley of Metallica songs. The evening was nothing short of electrifying.

It is starting to be proven that anything involving The Colorado Symphony Orchestra at Red Rocks is a memorable experience. When artists pair with our symphony, it gives us the chance to hear their music in a totally new way. Some of the symphony collaborations seem like an obvious fit and others really make you wonder how artist and symphony will mesh. Rodrigo Y Gabriela was one of those obvious fit situations, considering the two play classically based acoustic guitars with virtuoso status.

Rodrigo Y Gabriela mesmerized a diverse crowd at the 1stBank Center last Tuesday. There were times when everyone in the place was on their feet dancing along, then there were times when each person in the venue was perched at the edge of their seat in complete amazement. These two are wizards in the way that they can manipulate the sounds coming from those 6 stringed pieces of wood and consequently the emotions of each person listening. With C.U.B.A. as a backing band, it was a truly unique and wonderful night of music!
