Nick Mason – October 20th – Paramount Theater

Estimated read time 6 min read

As time passes, we lose more and more of the greats, so no matter what flaws the show might have had, it was still a privilege to see Nick Mason on stage bringing those classics to life. There will never be another Pink Floyd, so any piece that still exists must be held onto until the very end.

Roger Waters – September 6th – Ball Arena

Estimated read time 7 min read

Fans may have waited more than two years for this performance, but it was worth it. If Waters never tours again, this show go down in history as it set the bar higher yet again and may well live to be the litmus test against which all other arena shows are judged. What a incredible experience.

Swift: Marco Benevento’s Unlikely Quest for Continuity

Estimated read time 11 min read

Team work makes the dream work. Instrumentalist, and songwriter/producer Marco Benevento’s most recent album “Swift” is proof of it–so much so that he named the album after one of his collaborators. With the talents of Producer Richard Swift and the lyrical genius of Aaron “Gene Ween” Freeman in his pocket, Benevento’s latest masterpiece is a graduation of his previous efforts–with the same sound that fans have come to love, but also an added lyrical seriousness. Give it a listen and go check out Benevento at the 1up Colfax this weekend.

Roger Waters “The Wall” – May 7th – The Pepsi Center

Estimated read time 1 min read

Last night Roger Waters brought The Wall back to The Pepsi Center for an encore performance. Those who missed the show the first time around had their opportunity to see the Pink Floyd legend perform the landmark album in it’s entirety in one of the best touring productions ever staged. With giant puppets, pyrotechnics, airplanes flying in the from the rafters, and of course a massive wall, Waters proved yet again that, even as he pushes 70, he is one of the biggest rock stars on the planet.

Blitzen Trapper & Dawes – November 7th – The Fox Theatre

Estimated read time 8 min read

On Monday night at The Fox, LA band Dawes played one of the most impressive rock shows I have witnessed in years. No, they didn’t have the production value of Roger Waters’ “The Wall” performance or the raw, testosterone fueled, energy of a Rage Against The Machine show, but what they did have was a staggering amount of musical talent. It was simply overflowing from these four men as they put on a clinic on how to be the best band you can be.
