Slayer & Anthrax – October 10th – The Fillmore

Do you remember a time when you cranked the stereo up as loud as you could get away with to drown out the world and wallow in your teen angst? A time when Motley Crue was shouting at the devil because Satan could no longer hear them, having been deafened by the emergence of thrash metal? Two of the genre’s biggest names, Slayer and Anthrax, invaded the Fillmore and it was one hell of a night!

Riot Fest – September 19th, 20th, 21st – Sports Authority Field

Although Riot Fest celebrated it’s tenth anniversary this year, it was only the second year that the festival has come to Colorado. The festival was originally located in Byers, but after the town refused to let festival attendees return for the second year, the event was moved to the blacktop at Sports Authority Field in Denver. Riot Fest is one-of-a-kind festival, with carnival rides and sideshows and a wide variety of music ranging from Rock to Punk to Rap.

Slayer – May 10th – Fillmore Auditorium

The Fillmore played host on Saturday night to a trio of bands as well as a raucous crowd of concert goers ready to explode to some hard-hitting Heavy Metal. Though no one would be so bold as to call Exodus or Suicidal Tendencies “opening acts,” the two Cali-based bands did a great job warming up the crowd at the Fillmore–by the time Slayer hit the stage, the crowd was collectively foaming at the mouth. In the end, Slayer blew the crowd away, reminding fans and critics alike why they have managed to retain a fan base for 30+ years.

Trampled By Turtles – January 10th – The Ogden

What began as a modest line forming alongside The Ogden an hour before showtime eventually resulted in a packed, sold-out crowd filled with very friendly folks. Thursday’s audience was reflective of the evening’s music and performances. There were no gimmicks, subdued fashion taste dominated and calm, fun-loving attitudes were the norm. This combination resulted in a very relaxing environment full of well-adjusted, mature, down-to-earth music enthusiasts who weren’t trying to cause any trouble.
