SnowBall Music Festival – April 6th – Sports Authority Field

Estimated read time 3 min read

Although the layout of the 2014 SnowBall Festival was ill-conceived and the crowd was ridiculously young in age and experience, there were several dominating performances on Sunday that reaffirmed why the SnowBall Festival deserves to occupy a permanent spot on the Colorado concert calendar. The Juan McLean delivered an excellent Deep House set and Busta Rhymes, a true legend, took the crowd back to the golden age of Hip-Hop; all in all, it was a great night.

SnowBall Music Festival – April 5th – Sports Authority Field

Despite gray skies and the threat of rain, day two of SnowBall Music Festival saw a fired up crowd ready to soak in a diverse lineup of bands, MCs, and DJs at Sports Authority Field. The diverse lineup did not disappoint and the willingness of most concert goers to let their freak flags fly was almost contagious. While the switch in locations from the mountains to a parking lot in Denver didn’t exactly lend to the atmosphere, it certainly made things more convenient and a whole lot warmer.

SnowBall Music Festival opened Friday night at Sports Authority Field in a new home and with a fresh lineup that went well beyond another night at the club. While Dubstep was indeed the king of the evening, high-fashion Disco and dirty Shoegaze did not go unsung. The weather was a factor and a damp chill in the air made it feel more like winter in San Francisco than spring in Denver. Cool temperatures, however, did not dampen the spirits of the modestly sized crowd.

Driving into Winter Park on Friday afternoon was a 3mph parade of late teens and twenty-somethings already in neon accessories and ski gear, piled six deep in SUV’s on the way to one of the more unique electronic music events in the country, Snowball Music Festival. The police, who vowed to be less aggressive than last year, pulled over cars left and right as we made our way through downtown Winter Park to the condo. It was 4pm and the anticipation had everybody in full party mode before sunset.
