Cervantes’ 11th Anniversary Party – January 18th – Cervantes’

Cervantes’ celebrated 11 years as an integral part of the Denver scene last weekend and the party they threw on Saturday was nothing short of incredible. The festivities started in the main ballroom with a powerful set from The Great Guys and throughout the night bouncing back and forth between the Ballroom and The Other Side was almost required as Kim Dawson’s Sisters of Soul, Assembly of Dust, Atomga, and Floodwood all whipped the crowd into a frenzy.

Soule Monde: A World Smashing Musical Story

In Latin “Sol” means “Sun.” In French “Monde” translates to “Earth.” In Vermontese Soule Monde (pronounced Sol-Leh Mon-Day) means drummer Russ Lawton and keyboardist Ray Paczkowski. In Haitian Creole “Soule Monde” translates to “smashed world,” which is exactly what will happen to yours when you hear this dynamic duo shatter conventional notions of Jazz, World-Beat, and Funk this Saturday at Cervantes’. Listen Up Denver! was curious as to how this group came to fruition and in chatting with Ray Paczkowski, a story began to emerge.

PICK OF THE WEEK: Assembly Of Dust – Summit Music Hall – January 12th

Assembly of Dust has a sound that recalls the likes of The Band and Neil Young, but they have taken that early 70’s Americana sound and put their own contemporary spin on it. While they haven’t played Colorado in nearly three years, the band, fronted by former Strangefolk frontman Reid Genauer, should have no problem packing The Summit Music Hall when they come to town this weekend.
