STS9 – September 9th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

STS9 returned to Red Rocks Amphitheatre for their 19th and 20th shows at the hallowed venue. The band has taken on a looser sound with the arrival of new bassist Alana Rocklin in recent years. The latest tour has allowed Sound Tribe 2.0 to dig into older tracks that have slowly disappeared from the rotation while exploring the funky sounds of the recently released The Universe Inside. A near sold-out crowd braved the cold and packed The Ogden last Saturday for the return of Canada’s favorite power trio, The New Deal. The band set a very high bar with the driving rhythms and pulsing beats of house music combined with sleek and almost futuristic sounding melodies that are their calling card. Their largely improvised show proved they are poised for big things to come. Hopefully for fans this is true and none of them will have to say “Its been so long since I’ve seen The New Deal” ever again.

STS9 – January 2nd – Fillmore Auditorium

Estimated read time 4 min read

Despite frigid temperatures, and a line of flat brims and hoodies that stretched a full city block, the vibrations within the Fillmore for last Friday’s STS9 show were more than palpable. Following a mesmerizing two set performance the band encored with the endlessly trippy slow buildup of “Phoneme” off of their album ‘Ad Explorata,’ which roughly translates to “Forward Into The Unexplored.” STS9 proved yet again that they probably always will do just that when it comes to their unique music.
