A New Jersey native with longstanding ties to the Jam scene, Todd Sheaffer made a name for himself as the front man for From Good Homes before founding Railroad Earth with Tim Carbone, John Skehan, Carey Harmon, and Andy Goessling in 2001. The band burst onto the scene immediately with a performance at Telluride Bluegrass the same year and hasn’t slowed down since.

As families we all have our traditions and, whether it’s opening presents on Christmas Eve, driving to the cabin every summer, or making pancakes on Sunday morning, these traditions are what define our lives and give us those memories that last a lifetime. For our family, one of those traditions is our annual August pilgrimage to Lyons for the Rocky Mountain Folks Fest. Though it’s been twelve years some thing remain the same; the beer is cold, the music is amazing, and the river water cools the blood in minutes.

Elephant Revival – May 21st – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

The cusp of summer in Colorado is a beautiful time of year, full of warm days, cool nights, and dreamy mountain adventures – perfect for an evening on The Rocks with Elephant Revival. They hail from that little town a 30-minute drive up the canyon from Boulder, the mysterious town of Nederland (referred to by locals as “Ned”). It doesn’t have much cell phone service, and isn’t a typical stop on a tourist’s map. Perhaps that’s why this town has shaped such unique artists as the ones who make up this wonderful band.

This year’s installment of Telluride Bluegrass Festival saw a multitude of new acts and many mainstays. The weather was pristine and the people were generous with a place on their tarp or camp and an easy smile. Every day seemed to boast weather better than the last and each act left the faithful thinking, “well there is no way they can top that. Friends old and new, families of tradition and families making new traditions, all came together for the undeniable love of Bluegrass music.
