The Hold Steady – June 16th – The Bluebird Theater

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Hold Steady are a rowdy Rock and Roll band that falls somewhere between Springsteen, Vonnegut, and The Clash on the grand spectrum and they deserve a crowd that meets them in the penthouse suite ready to party. With their mini-residencies – or “Weekenders” as the band calls them – that the band as been doing of late they have discovered a winning formula: Set up shop in a city like Brooklyn, London, Minneapolis, or Denver and let the fans come to you – and come they will, ready to party.

Hiss Golden Messenger – March 4th – Bluebird Theater

Estimated read time 3 min read

Finally! I finally got to catch a full band Hiss Golden Messenger show! I’ve been a fan of this band for a long time, and the last few time MC Taylor and his band have been through Denver our schedules haven’t aligned. I got to see Taylor play a solo show at Union Station a few years back, and that was a very special show but I was longing for the big, full sound of the band and I was not disappointed!

The Milk Carton Kids – November 14th – The Bluebird Theater

Estimated read time 3 min read

When The Milk Carton Kids rolled into Denver last week it was like the old days, there was no band in tow, no big venue to navigate, just Joey and Kenneth, their guitars and a single microphone. It was a stripped down, intimate affair that had sold-out well in advance and, for those of us lucky enough to make it inside, it was a very special evening of music.

Jake Bugg – April 4th – The Bluebird Theater

Estimated read time 2 min read

Humbly deflecting unasked-for requests for songs, English songwriter Jake Bugg guided a packed house through a memorable acoustic set last Tuesday night at the Bluebird. Bugg’s set, though acoustic and played primarily under a single spotlight, was by no means dull. The twenty-four-year-old was preceded by another young UK musician, Scotland’s Nina Nesbitt.

Anders Osborne – March 9th – Bluebird Theater

Estimated read time 3 min read

Last Friday night, Anders Osborne stopped into The Bluebird Theater on historic Colfax Avenue for an intimate solo acoustic show. Typically accompanied by a bold backing band, an Anders Osborne show is usually loud. This show from Anders would be different – with no drums, no bass, and no one except Anders Osborne. He looked strong and happy to be playing, so hopefully we’ll keep getting the opportunity to join Anders in this solo acoustic setting, as it really suits his music, his spirit, and his fans.

While she burst onto the scene with a wonderfully re-imagined take on Phish’s legendary “Tahoe Tweezer,” Bowling also works her magic on the tunes of Garcia, Hunter, Weir, Barlow and others.
