Fruition and Grant Farm: A Meeting on the Mountain

Estimated read time 8 min read

It was a cold, snowy night in Nederland, Colorado. But the town was hoppin’ as it was in the midst of the annual Frozen Dead Guy Days festival. Over at Whistler’s Café The Grant Farm was getting ready to take the stage. Driving up to Ned in an old van was a then little known group of street performers turned club players called Fruition. While neither band knew it at the time, one of those cosmic crossing of the paths was about to take place. But it wasn’t all in the stars . . .

Lola Black – May 23rd – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

The nearly full Bluebird Theater was packed with fans drenched in black waiting to see The Dreaming and Lola Black last Thursday. Lola Black struck the show in the face with the giant brass knuckle mic stand, tons of defiance and said hello by giving us all the bird. Lola herself immediately seemed like a force to be considered in her 6-inch platforms with spikes, fishnet stockings and the black teased hair. Her fans flaunted real Mile High love for this hometown group.

Pickwick – March 19th – The Bluebird

Estimated read time 4 min read

From the opening notes of “Brother Roland” until the final echoes of “Windowsill” died away, the audience was completely invested in the performance and it was clear that the boys in Pickwick were having the time of their lives. Only occasionally picking up a tambourine, frontman Galen Disston worked the stage, and the mic, like a seasoned veteran as he poured himself into each and every song the band cranked through.

Soul music has the wonderful property of evoking memories of musical marks made on the heart and that’s just one of the many reasons why the new EP from The Congress is quickly working its way into heavy rotation on our playlists. Rob Drabkin’s Birthday Bash – January 19th – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

For the third year in a row Drabkin put on a birthday concert which united his family, friends and fans at a packed Bluebird Theatre. While Drabkin can be usually be seen on stages playing by his lonesome, or with a stripped down band since he is of the singer-songwriter class…on Saturday he brought out the big guns for his birthday bash. Drabkin’s enthusiasm beamed from his face the entire night, and the crowd returned the favor. Birthday or no, this big-haired boy can put on a hell of a show.

Milo Greene & Bahamas – November 9th – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

The Bluebird was filled with the buzz that comes at the end of a long week on Friday night for Los Angeles resident Milo Greene and the Canadian based band, Bahamas. While we were there primarily for Bahamas, when Milo Greene opened up with a big wall of harmony we were sucked right in. While certain members lead at times, there was no way you could call anyone the lead singer. It’s always amazing to see a band of so many talented people playing together when they could all front a band of their own.

Brother Ali – October 12th – The Bluebird Theatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

The Bluebird Theatre was a steamy house of Hip-Hop as heads nodded to the funky beats and dissident flow of Rhymesayer Brother Ali. The sold-out crowd had their eyes locked on the stage the entire night, throwing hands into the sky, and rapping along to the words they have made a part of their lives over the past few years. Hip-Hop was born out of dire circumstances, oppression and unrest, and it is good to see that some artists still keep the focus there.
