The Head And The Heart – August 14th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

An extremely long line of fans trailed down the road behind the scenic Red Rocks Amphitheatre last Thursday night for a first-rate show that nearly didn’t come to fruition after a severed power line cut power to the historic venue. Though the show was pushed back an hour, fans were in high spirits and the show that followed was more than worth the wait.

A Day In the Life of Denver’s Ark Life

Estimated read time 1 min read

Last December we had the opportunity to follow Denver’s Ark Life around before their sold-out two night run with friends The Head And The Heart at the Ogden. The band’s chemistry was contagious and both days were filled with laughter and horseplay. It was evident that they all truly care about one another and their relationships go well beyond that of mere musical collaborators. We were there from pre-show rehearsal, to load-in, soundcheck, and the post-show party both days. This the long day that goes into the short opening set.

Josiah Johnson & Carleigh Aikins – February 9th – Ivywild School

Estimated read time 5 min read

The half-court gymnasium at Colorado Springs’ Ivywild School concert venue filled awkwardly at first as fans crowded against opposite walls, lending to the overall feeling that I may had accidentally been dropped off at a middle school dance last Sunday night. It’s not quite like any place you’ve ever seen a show before and that’s part of its magic. The night unfolded as beautiful mix of voices and bodies of work, making for a great experience for The Head And The Heart fans as well as those unfamiliar with their work.

The Head and the Heart – December 13th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Playing a second sold-out show at the Ogden, The Head and the Heart’s home spun energy and vitality left the band’s membership in the Indie Folk movement favorably in question. Performing a mix of old hits from their self-titled debut and new songs from ‘Let’s Be Still,’ TH&H’s obvious love of performing–not to mention their natural aptitude for it–trumped any inclination or pause regarding the authenticity of singing about whiskey rivers and learning age-old trades.

Catch Bees, the newest project from Philip Waggoner, is poised to release it’s debut album, ‘Newman’s Open Choir,’ and quite simply this album is a triumph. Flirting with everything from Americana to Classical, this record takes the listener on a musical joyride through genre after genre and it’s impossible not to marvel at the artistry infused into each as they wash over the eardrum. This is thinking man’s Dream / Chamber Pop and it is bound to appeal to a wide range of music fans who enjoy listening to music with an educated ear.

The Head & The Heart – October 10th – The Gothic Theatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

The Head And The Heart played to a sold-out house at The Gothic on Monday. The harmonies were tight, the songs were played energetically, and throughout the hour-long set the sold-out crowd got exactly what they were expecting. They have set the bar pretty high for the next time around, but judging by the new tunes they featured, they should be able to live up to it.

The Head and The Heart Are Exploding Into The Mainstream

Estimated read time 6 min read

Seattle’s critically acclaimed and much buzzed folk-pop sextet The Head and The Heart is a very young band by most standards, having only been together for a little over a year, but they are working hard to avoid the pitfalls of the road and staying focused on the two things that mean the most to them: their friendship and the music they love to play together.
