The mention of a “cover band” often conjures up images of old dudes with long hair, bandannas and black leather vests unsuccessfully attempting to bring back the 80s. That said, one night of solid tunes at the strangely beautiful and exceptionally unique venue known as the Jamestown Mercantile by Boulder-based band Zen Mustache, and our views on cover bands were changed forever. This show was a lampshade-shaking good time.
At moments recalling huge “Indie” pop bands like The Killers and The Stokes, while clearly drawing inspiration from giants of the 70’s like The Stones and The Clash, Denver’s The Knew have crafted an album of infectiously gritty guitar laced pop songs that should find their way onto every good jukebox in the country and fuel those late night sing-alongs that gradually fade-in as a hazy memory over a strong cup of coffee on Sunday mornings.
Mark Farina and Lindstrøm are poised to take Cervantes’ by storm on Thursday night with their own brands of electronic music. Farina’s “Mushroom Jazz” blends acid jazz and urban beats with the West Coast’s jazzy, organic productions, while Lindstrøm’s space disco is sure to take you on an amazing journey. Both artists will thrill the crowd in their own way, and there’s no doubt that fans of one are soon to become fans of the other.
