“As I looked at all of the members of The Levon Helm Band when they lined up at the end of the night, I saw a band in transition and a family in mourning. I saw a group of extremely talented musicians who are willing to do whatever it takes to get through this, and to keep Levon’s legacy going strong. The pain of Levon’s death is still etched deeply in the hearts of many, and will continue to be for a long time, but the joy his music creates is just as powerful.”

When Levon Helm passed away last week at the age of 71, it hit many people in the music world very hard, and we here at Listen Up Denver! were no exception. While several of us have been to Rambles at Helm’s home in Woodstock, one of us in particular, Brian Turk, had the pleasure of knowing Levon personally and becoming a part of the tight knit family that Levon held so close up until the end. Please take a moment to read his thoughts as he shares some memories of the legendary, Levon Helm.
