The New Mastersounds kicked off their Colorado run of shows last Wednesday at the legendary Fox Theatre as it celebrates its 25th anniversary with special shows all month. Supporting them was NOLA’s favorite party band, The New Orleans Suspects, who got the room warmed up and ready to rage.
The New Orleans Suspects are throwing one hell of an after party this weekend during the Widespread Panic shows at Red Rocks. The Suspects will be performing two nights this Friday and Saturday and have a whole mess of friends joining them including members of Widespread Panic, Little Feat, and many more! Believe us, you don’t want to miss these shows!
Back in November, Listen Up Denver! was lucky enough to get The New Orleans Suspects to agree to play an exclusive set at Quixote’s True Blue for our video series “Listen Up Denver! Live.” Yesterday we released “36 Cars” and today you can feast your eyes and ears on “Swampthang,” a driving instrumental that features some great soloing. Tonight the boys are up in Frisco to begin a three show high-country run before hitting The Oriental this weekend for a two night stand.

Live.” The all-star line-up cranked a couple of stellar tunes and we are going to present one to you today, and one tomorrow, as the band returns to our state for a week-long run of five shows that will see them playing three shows in the high-country before returning to Denver for a two night stand at The Oriental.
Halloween weekend in Denver is a big deal. Every major venue is packed with costumed music lovers and this year the hallowed theme of the revelers All Saints’ Day preparation was the sanctity of Funk. The Motet packed The Ogden for two nights recreating the sounds of Parliament Funkadelic, March Fourth Marching Band brought their fun and Funk filled vibe to The Gothic, and at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom, Rebirth Brass Band marched the saints in with New Orleans Brass Band Funk.
Last week, as the rumors swirled about the closing of the current Quixote’s location at 2151 Lawrence St, and the possibilities for new locations, we were lucky enough to get Jay Bianchi, the mastermind behind the whole operation, to sit down with us for a few minutes to talk about his feelings about leaving the current location, his plans for the new space, and of course the upcoming 16th Anniversary of the Denver institution.
The New Orleans Suspects are the newest band of their kind out of New Orleans, and yet is old school in its approach and its lineup. Let’s not mince words here; this band is a super-group by all measures. All you have to do is look at the players’ resumes. The band played a nice mix of NOLA staples and band originals, giving the audience a healthy dose of old and new material. They brought the heat on songs like “Smoke My Peacepipe” and “Sneakin’ Sally” with vocal arrangements that melted like butter on a hot NOLA day.
