boygenius – August 5th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

The girls of boygenius are no strangers to the stage. Although still in their twenties, Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus have been writing music and playing shows since their teens. All three artists have performed in front of Colorado fans since 2016, gracing stages at the likes of Lost Lake Lounge, Globe Hall, Bluebird Theatre, The Ogden, Mission Ballroom, and Red Rocks. Then, in 2018 that they joined as a band; united by a love for each other’s music coupled with their disgust with how “women in music” were defined and pitted against each other.

Joe Russo Talks Furthur, The Grateful Dead, and “Almost Dead”

Estimated read time 12 min read

We had the pleasure of talking with Furthur drummer Joe Russo about this weekend’s Colorado shows with Joe Russo’s Almost Dead as well as some of his other recent and upcoming projects and collaborations. In part one of this two part piece we touch on how JRAD started as a fresh take on the classic Grateful Dead song catalog, the transformative experience Russo has gone through since immersing himself into the world of The Grateful Dead, and his place in the lone line of potential torchbearers of that music.

Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls – October 9th – The Ogden

Estimated read time 3 min read

Last Wednesday Frank Turner and The Sleeping Souls turned The Ogden Theatre into a Punk Rock church as a nearly full house sang along, pumped their fists and generally swooned as Turner and his band serenaded them for 90 minutes. There were teens moved from their angst by Turner’s lyrics and buttoned up 9-to-5ers who had recently become hooked on his Folk-Punk, dancing right alongside 30 somethings who clearly had been fans of Turner’s Post-Hardcore project, Million Dead. Somehow it all seemed to work perfectly.

Alabama Shakes – March 9th – The Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

When Brittany Howard and the rest of Alabama Shakes walked out onto the stage the Ogden simply exploded in deafening cheers and, as the band tore into “Hang Loose” from their 2012 debut album Boys & Girls, those cheers morphed into a chorus of voices singing along in unison. From start to finish, Alabama Shakes delivered a set that was a moving and powerful reminder of just how good they really are at delivering Blues soaked Garage Soul music that soaks in deep and satisfies nearly every primal craving.

Galactic – February 16th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 5 min read

Galactic was the main attraction last Saturday at The Ogden, but opener Monophonics drew a hell of crowd and won over a legion of new fans. Once feet started moving they didn’t stop as these two powerhouse bands hit us with a one-two punch that made our legs quiver, and our ears ring. We were floored by the Funk, swept away by the Soul, and ravaged by the Rock…but we stood firm as the full force gale stormed from the stage.

The Walkmen & Father John Misty – January 21st – The Ogden

Estimated read time 4 min read

The Ogden Theatre slowly filled in last Monday night for a show a lot of people had been looking forward to for months – two of 2012’s best indie rock acts on one bill. As show time neared, a healthy, though not sold-out, crowd of twenty and thirty somethings milled around, drinks in hand ready for a fun close to MLK Day. While Walkmen failed to wow the crowd, Father John Misty put on a hell of a stage show throughout the set with his strong, smooth vocals and his ridiculous drunk-white-girl dance moves.

moe. – November 30th & December 1st – The Ogden

Estimated read time 3 min read

Connecting with the audience is something moe. strives to do at every live show. If you’re looking for rock stars that head-bang, gyrate, and throw their shirts at the end of a set, this ain’t your show. However, if you’re looking to see a tireless rock band who plays their hearts out on original tunes with ease, then you gotta see moe. Whenever these five musicians walked onstage at The Ogden this past weekend, the crowd erupted and proved moe. has been successful at keeping its fans close and its “moe.rons” closer.

moe.peners: Yamn & The Congress – 11/30 & 12/1 – The Ogden

Estimated read time 5 min read

The sidewalks leading to The Ogden Theatre were packed this past weekend, not only because moe. was in town for a two-night run, but because a pair of Colorado’s favorite bands were opening the shows. The lines to get in the door started early and, on both nights, the theater was packed from the pit to the balcony for the duration. It’s not easy task to win over a room full of inpatient jamband fans, but both these bands did it by playing their hearts out and we are proud they call Denver home!

Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band – November 17th – The Bluebird

Estimated read time 3 min read

When Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band took to the stage at The Bluebird they certainly confused more than one onlooker as there were only three people on the stage. There was Breezy Peyton on washboard and back-up vocals, Aaron Persinger on drums (a stripped down drum kit that included a 5 gallon plastic bucket), and Reverend Peyton himself on guitar. How could they call this a Big Damn Band? Where was the bass player, and the other guitar player?
