Galactic – February 16th – Ogden Theatre
Posted on February 25, 2013 | No CommentsGalactic was the main attraction last Saturday at The Ogden, but opener Monophonics drew a hell of crowd and won over a legion of new fans. Once feet started moving they didn’t stop as these two powerhouse bands hit us with a one-two punch that made our legs quiver, and our ears ring. We were floored by the Funk, swept away by the Soul, and ravaged by the Rock...but we stood firm as the full force gale stormed from the stage. -
STS9 – December 29th – Fillmore Auditorium
Posted on January 7, 2013 | No CommentsThe five-man Jamtronic crew known as STS9 took the stage at The Fillmore on the 29th for the first of three shows leading up to a New Year's Eve extravaganza and manned their jam battle stations in front of a Mayan pyramid. STS9’s 3 night New Years runs have become a welcome tradition in the Colorado music scene and their devoted followers, like many in the jam band community, understand how to have one hell of a time but also know how to temper the excitement for night one of three with the sense that the best is yet to come. -
93.3’s “Not So Silent Night” featuring Fun., Of Monsters And Men & Churchill – December 13th – 1stBank Center
Posted on December 20, 2012 | No CommentsThe giant 1stBank Center arena filled-in early last Thursday night for Channel 93.3’s Not So Silent Night concert featuring three of 2012’s biggest names in substantive Pop music. The crowd in the stands was dominated by groups of friends and couples in their twenties and thirties drinking nine dollar Bud Lights and chatting casually and all the signs that Fun has arrived as arena-sized band were present. -
Everclear – November 11th – The Ogden Theatre
Posted on November 16, 2012 | No CommentsOn Sunday night at The Ogden, Everclear played hit after hit including radio favorites like, “Everything to Everyone,” “AM Radio,” “Santa Monica,” and “Wonderful” to a packed house of 30 and 40 year olds who had braved the cold night air. Everclear’s music is truly timeless and distinctive sounding. All of their hits and deeper cuts sounded, and felt, like they could have been written yesterday. They have that alternative edge with a Pop-Punk infused upbeat delivery and it's infectious. -
PICK OF THE WEEK: Toots & The Maytals w/ Anders Osborne – Swallow Hill – November 10th
Posted on November 5, 2012 | No CommentsToots and the Maytals, originally called simply The Maytals, are considered legends of Ska and Reggae music. Their sound is a unique, original combination of gospel, ska, soul, reggae and rock and when they bring their acoustic tour to Denver this weekend, New Orleans powerhouse Anders Osborne will join The Maytals on the bill at Swallow Hill. Between the two of them, it is sure to be a memorable night of music. -
Grace Potter & The Nocturnals – October 26th – The Fillmore
Posted on October 31, 2012 | No CommentsIf you combine Grace Potter's decade of touring, the fact that she just happens to be blessed by the hand of god with a fine physical appearance, and her balance of raw and soulful vs.radio friendly songs, well, she can pull just about anybody out to a show and she proved that on Friday night at The Fillmore with the turnout and the diversity of the crowd. All ages and all walks of life came out for various reasons, but everyone wanted to get down...and we did just that. All damn night. -
Little Feat’s Paul Barrere Talks Feat Past and Present
Posted on September 12, 2012 | No CommentsLittle Feat is a band that has been in the trenches of Rock and Roll since the revolution began. In 1969, Frank Zappa suggested Lowel George leave The Mothers of Invention and form his own band, and that same year George formed Little Feat with the goal of combining Blues, Funk, Country, Folk, Rhythm and Blues and Rock and Roll. Listen Up Denver! had the honor of catching up with Little Feat’s Paul Barrere while he was in a hotel in New York, and we talked Feat past and present. -
Phish – 8/31, 9/1, 9/2 – Dick’s Sporting Goods Park
Posted on September 4, 2012 | 3 CommentsSo, let's get this out of the way right off the bat, was Phish's Friday night show at Dick's the "best Phish show of the 3.0 era?" We're not sure how it possibly could have been. Yes it had it's moments, mostly due to the shenanigans of nodding to last year's "S" show by spelling out "FUCK YOUR FACE" with the setlist, but overall the show was pretty uneven musically. It just didn't flow like the other two nights of the run that featured some of the most fluid sets we've heard out of this band in years.
