The War On Drugs – October 10th – Ogden Theatre

Adam Granduciel (aka The War On Drugs) took the stage on Friday night before a packed house at The Ogden Theatre and dazzled the crowd with a set that included nearly every song on his stand-out recent release ‘Lost In The Dream.’ Not only did they recreate the layers and atmospheric sounds that are so pervasive on the record, but they pushed the songs to the limit with extended jams and Granduciel’s guitar solos.

Megafaun Combines A Host Of Influences For A Rich Folk Sound

Six years ago, the band DeYarmond Edison called it quits. They had moved from Eau Claire, Wisc., to Raleigh, N.C. together a few years earlier; but that strong southern sun must have cast a different light on the paths in front of them. The group’s vocalist and guitarist, Justin Vernon, headed back to the woods of Wisconsin, while brothers Phil and Brad Cook decided to keep pickin’ in the pines along with drummer Joe Westerlund. The Tar Heel trio declared themselves Megafaun, while Justin Vernon went on to form Bon Iver.

Last October, Gordy Quist and the rest of The Band of Heathens got cozy at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom for two nights and recorded a live two DVD and CD set called The Double Down – Live in Denver. Listen Up Denver! had the chance to catch up with Gordy Quist while he was at home in Austin recently, and he was nice enough to share some of his thoughts on the last time he was here in the Mile High City.
