Joey Cape – September 8th – The Walnut Room

Estimated read time 8 min read

The Walnut Room was packed for an acoustic night of music played by some of Punk Rock’s greatest doing a full night of acoustic performances. Several drunks were shushed during the show as it was a quiet room and at times hard to hear the performers over them. Despite the annoyance, the laid-back audience didn’t seem to care too much, they were just happy to see the Punk Rock superstar Joey Cape live in a piano bar or singer/songwriter type of setting rather than a raucous Punk club.

Patrick Sweany – June 10th – The Walnut Room

Estimated read time 6 min read

Patrick Sweany can be described as a Blues Rocker with elements of Folk and Soul; he can jam out on Slide guitar and finger pick like nobody’s business. The energy this man emits is simply incredible. Think The Black Keys meets Elvis Presley meets Billy Bland meets Wilson Pickett. This man is a rock star and he proved it for a crowd of 9-5ers in their 30s and 40s last week at The Walnut Room as he showcased a bunch of songs off his new record that will be released in July.

The White Buffalo – November 11th – The Walnut Room

Estimated read time 6 min read

The White Buffalo is a rarity, both in Native American Indian lore, and in modern music. When they stampeded into The Walnut Room on Friday the man and his band took us through songs about drinking, prostitutes, the road, darkness, murder, love, and loneliness; each one having a totally different sound and feel. Nothing in the entire set was repetitive or redundant. The show took us all to a whole other level of frenzy!

Andy Palmer & Grub Street Writer – October 14th – The Walnut Room

Estimated read time 4 min read

Andy Palmer and his band Grub Street Writer threw a CD Release Party for Palmer’s new record “Sometime Around” at the Walnut Room. The band was tight and their music was presented in exquisite detail. It was great to see Palmer’s vision come together so smoothly as he combined the subtleties of guitarist Dan Kern’s Jam and Jazz influenced Les Paul licks, with his own raw acoustic style. Both Kern and Palmer were on fire, and crowd loved it!

Cirque Voltaire Deux – August 26th – The Oriental Theater

Estimated read time 3 min read

The Cirque Voltaire Deux featured two musical acts and a stage was filled with sideshow acts, burlesque dancers, mentalist magic, aerial performers, a bearded lady, and even an animal act with a trained monkey playing cymbals. It was a night of sensory overload which Brandan Styles and Ellie Rusinova, the artistic duo that form Mad Tatters, coordinated to promote intellectual exchanges, oppose intolerance, and just maybe have a little fun along the way.
