Phil Lesh and his ever present “Friends” set up shop at the Mission Ballroom last weekend and this time around he invited Grahame Lesh on guitar and John Molo on drums, Rick Mitarotonda of Goose, Jason Crosby on keyboards and violin, and the Trey Anastasio Band horns, Natalie Cressman, Jennifer Hartswick, and James Casey.
Is every Sunday show an epic throwdown that you shouldn’t have missed? The short answer is “no” but it’s understandable that people want to feel like they were rewarded for going out on a Sunday night and catching a marathon performance. Trey Anastasio and his supremely talented band turned in nearly three hours of music on Sunday and, despite the early start time, it was likely midnight before many in the capacity crowd made it home.

We had a great chat about everything from the new album she is putting out, to her former bandmate Tony Markelis, to Denver’s own Dance Party Time Machine as the van rolled down the road. Trey Anastasio, legendary guitarist for Phish, stopped into Red Rocks for the first time since 2009 (and first time with TAB since 2005) and there’s no doubt he was happy to be back. Anastasio’s grin was a near permanent fixture from the first time he appeared on stage to sit in with Vulfpeck for a take on “Rango” early in the night, till the final notes of “Dazed and Confused” reverberated off the rocks and disappeared into the night air.
A sold-out crowd poured into The Fillmore last Friday night to catch a glimpse of jam royalty as Phish guitarist and king of the jamband scene, Trey Anastasio, brought his seven piece band to town. 2015 has been a busy year for Trey; whether it was helping to deliver Phish’s best summer tour of the last two decades or filling in for Jerry Garcia with The Grateful Dead for their 50th anniversary shows, the jam icon has had perhaps his most prolific year of his distinguished career.

Cervantes’ threw their 12 year anniversary celebration this past weekend and it was Everyone Orchestra kicking off another year of musical delightment at everyone’s favorite Welton St ballroom. Everyone Orchestra was the band for both Friday and Saturday night, with local bands The Congress opening Friday and Deadphish Orchestra Saturday. On Saturday the scene was filled with excitement, patrons ready to celebrate. The line to get in was long and tight, regulars and newcomers waiting to push through to the party.
