Trout Steak Revival has earned a place in the mountain states Bluegrass scene, performing to sold-out audiences, winning the 2014 Telluride Bluegrass Festival Band Contest and placing in the 2012 Rockygrass Band Competition. From beginnings as an informal jamming unit during treks through the peaks of the Front Range, Trout Steak Revival has evolved into one of Colorado’s most tightly knit, hard-driving bands.
Dobro penetrated brick walls as I waited in line for the box office on Saturday. Inside the Fillmore Auditorium, soundcheck was unfolding for a huge night of music rooted in tradition, but tied to the heartbeat of the present. Inside, three bands, all with ties to Colorado, waited to play for the massive auditorium. There were flannels, puffy coats, vests, dresses, boots and of course, beards all there to witness a great evening of Americana that wrapped with all of the musicians onstage singing “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that.
Innovative newgrass-jam band, The Infamous Stringdusters are coming to Fillmore Auditorium on Saturday. Their distinctive sound has helped carve their way into the bluegrass scene – rewarding them with three International Bluegrass Music Association Awards and a Grammy nomination, but their true brilliance lies in their passion for live performance.

Colorado has always been a bastion for Bluegrass music; with bands like Hot Rize and Yonder Mountain String Band and major festivals like Planet Bluegrass’s Telluride Bluegrass and RockyGrass putting Colorado on the map as a hotspot for the grass of blue. But now a fresh, new band by the name of Trout Steak Revival has been making their mark on the Colorado scene and is set to take the country by storm.
While the staple bands of the Telluride Bluegrass Festival provide the base and foundation for the event each year, and truly help to cultivate the experience and sound of the festival, it’s often the random variety of debut bands whose appearances are peppered in that truly add that unique spice to the festival and leave such unforgettable impressions.
