Against Me! – March 21st – Summit Music Hall

Fans were packed in the front like sardines on Saturday at the Summit Music Hall for Rise Against!, eager for a glimpses of singer Laura Jane Grace (formerly Tom Gabel). Grace publicly revealed she was transgendered in May of 2012, and has since been living as a woman. Grace was the epitome of Punk Rock and commanded the stage for the performance, her naturally curly hair bounced around, occasionally shyly covering her face, accompanied by simple but stunning makeup.

Turbonegro – May 20th – The Ogden Theatre

There must have been a ship docked at 935 E Colfax on Monday night, because as I walked up to the Ogden Theater I became engulfed in a sea of boys and girls wearing denim and sailor caps. A bit surreal since we were all awash with the neon of Colfax, and not the Pacific Ocean which was over 1,000 miles away. Learning to embrace the odd lately, I decided if KISS can have army of fans then Turbonegro can have its navy of fans.

Mudhoney & The Fluid – January 6th – The Bluebird

This past February, many in the Denver area where shocked and saddened to learn of the tragic death of Rick Kulwicki. Kulwicki had been a mainstay of the Denver music scene for more than 25 years and while his passing left a big hole in the scene, it left an even bigger hole in his family as Kulwicki was a single father to twin boys who were suddenly on their own. Please read on to find out how Listen Up Denver! has teamed with Sub Pop and the local organization Prints For A Cause to help raise money for the Kulwicki boys.
