Legendary guitarist Adrian Belew was kind enough to spend some time talking with us as he waited out a fire drill in his Denver hotel on the eve of the “Remain In Light” tour that launches at the Ogden Theater here in Denver on February 16th.
For the second show of their first ever two night stand at the incomparable Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Greensky Bluegrass invited the eclectic Funk band Turkuaz to join them and get the crowd going early. From the moment they emerged in their brightly colored outfits, the nine piece delivered lots of low end funky rhythms that got people up off their asses and dancing.
Stalwarts of the scene, Lettuce, showed up at Red Rocks last Friday to deliver their 3rd annual “Rage Rocks” to a rabid crowd. Ten men strong, the stage was full all night and got damn near crowded as the band invited some big name guests to the stage. Note worthy support was provided by Turkuaz, who brought everyone to their feet as soon as they took the stage. From the get-go the vibe in the venue had a fever like it must have when James Brown graced a stage; people just couldn’t help but get down!
From their inception nearly two decades ago in Leeds, UK, The New Mastersounds have wholeheartedly embraced the “old school” label—their sound rooted deeply in classic soul jazz, boogaloo and funk. Sam Holt’s birthday tribute to Widespread Panic’s fallen lead guitarist, Michael Houser, has found a home here in Denver, and has become an annual tradition. Holt’s guitar playing is a dead ringer for Houser’s, and if you close your eyes you can almost see Mikey sitting up there, hair blowing in the breeze. Whether you’re a dedicated Spreadhead or a fan who was too young to see Mikey live, this is a must see show!
