  • The 18th annual Westword Music Showcase took over Denver’s Golden Triangle on the 23rd as 15 venues hosted hundreds of local and national bands in the 104 degree heat. On the blacktopped area in front of the main stage, people’s shoes sizzled in the sun and the music was as hot as the pavement.  We sweated, smiled and danced to a wide array of sounds. The nationally touring acts on the main stage added power to the event, and the energy Girl Talk put out at the end of the night nearly surged the grid.

  •  The Ogden Theatre was home to a Bluegrass bonanza on Saturday night, and everyone was getting down! The combination of the Travelin' McCourys and Keller Williams brought out lovers of all types of Bluegrass, and the musicians brought out the best in each other. String Cheese Incident fans, Bluegrass traditionalists, dready hill people, good ol' boys, and Festivarians all danced the night away as a stage full of well-loved musicians whipped together a perfect set list for a fun loving Colorado crowd.

  • Producer and guitarist Kevin Donahue, and bassist Andrew Clymer, have played in countless bands together over the last several years, including a recent stint performing with Bizzy Bone from Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, but they grew tired of playing other people's songs.  Looking for something new, they ended up forming Electronic Hydro Funk band SunSquabi.  They were kind enough to sit down with us after their opening set for Juno What?! last Saturday night at Cervantes', check out what they had to say.

  • The anticipation for the summer festival season couldn't be any higher than during these long winter months. Thankfully we don't have to wait for summer to experience a bit of the Festival life as the Waka Winter Classic brings the festival experience to Colorado this week.   At two different stops, Cervantes' Other Side and  Hodi's Half Note, bands will compete for the chance to perform at Wakarusa 2012. Listen Up Denver! caught up with Aaron Stehman of Pipeline Productions to talk about Wakarusa and the idea behind the Waka Winter Classic.

With some strong originals and smartly chosen covers, the evening's headliners won over a host of new fans in Denver.
