Denver Botanic Gardens is excited to announce the initial lineup for its 2019 Summer Concert Series presented by UMB Bank. The series is celebrated for bringing beloved, internationally-known musical artists to a place of unsurpassed beauty in the city.
The second Ziggy Marley and his band took the stage at the Gardens last week, fans were on their feet and moving close to the stage to ensure they staked a claim on dancing space. Many of the Garden faithful had caught Marley’s performance last summer and knew they were in for a long night of upbeat songs that were guaranteed to keep feet moving and hearts smiling.
Last Tuesday saw beautiful weather in Denver and the city’s Reggae fans turned out in droves to catch Ziggy Marley, the oldest son of the godfather of the genre Bob Marley. From beginning to end the show had an energy not usually found at The Gardens. The volume seemed to be a bit louder than normal and the crowd was as exuberant as the Gardens gets. Gone were the pizza, deep fried Twinkies, and beer vendors of most festivals. Instead there were free veggie burger samples, coconut water, and fruit smoothies to be had. After all, the theme for this festival was mindfulness, and we were being encouraged to have an awareness of both our mind and body. Wanderlust festival brought the world’s leading yoga teachers, top musical acts and DJs, and renowned speakers to the mountains of Colorado to enlighten and entertain.
The Ogden Theater was filled with musical prayers on Saturday. It was a celebration of life, of freedoms, and of love as Ziggy Marley and opener Natty sung their praises to Jah and brought us all a little closer to heaven. Reggae is a spiritual music, no two ways around it, and everyone came to worship the Marley bloodlines that have brought so much enjoyment to us all for the past few decades.
