Nothing goes better with good southern barbeque than good southern music. Well, maybe whiskey too. But whiskey make you do funny thangs and in showman Robby Peoples case funny, awesome thangs. On a cold, drizzly night in Colorado, in a dimly lit, hot and sweaty dancehall at the back of a barbeque joint, Peoples and his band brought a little Mississippi heat and Listen Up Denver! was there to soak it up.

The Greyboy Allstars – April 12th & 13th – Cervantes’ Ballroom

Last weekend The Greyboy Allstars came straight out of the 70’s on a groove of Funk, Soul, and Jazz. The band was in town supporting their new album, ‘Inland Emperor,’ which dropped this week, and the crowd filled in fast and early at Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom on both Friday and Saturday nights. Supported by Dumpstaphunk on Friday night and Denver’s own The Congress on Saturday, it was a weekend of unforgettable music, and luckily all three bands have new albums out to keep the party going.

Polytoxic’s Annual Last Waltz Revisited is a Denver Thanksgiving tradition that was especially tasty this year. The Ogden was sold-out and filled with an energy that pulsed with love for the music of The Band on Thanksgiving Eve as four generations of audience members sang along to songs that have become ingrained in the fabric of our lives. Parents put their arms around their children, friends hugged each other in the middle of songs and people felt some of their favorite music in a way few get to experience.
