The Wheels of Soul: Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Wood Brothers, Hot Tuna – July 30th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre
The Wheels of Soul rolled into Red Rocks last weekend and featured two nights of Tedeschi Trucks Band, The Wood Brothers, and Hot Tuna. Despite some rain early on Sunday, the fans got a healthy helping of Roots, Soul, Rock and Blues that featured more collaborations and covers than anyone could have anticipated. It was a memorable night on The Rocks and one that will likely go down in the lore of the storied venue.
PICK OF THE WEEK: The Wood Brothers – Ogden Theatre – Friday, December 9th
Dubbed “masters of soulful folk” by Paste, The Wood Brothers released their debut studio album, Ways Not To Lose, on Blue Note in 2006. Hailed by the New York Times for their “gripping” vocals and by the LA Times for their “taught musicianship,” the live is always a remarkable showcase for the brothers’ live chemistry and charismatic magnetism.
The Devil Makes Three, Shakey Graves & The Wood Brothers – May 27th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre
A show at Red Rocks in May can be chilly, but what better way to welcome summer than with bluegrass, rockabilly, and blues from The Wood Brothers, Shakey Graves, and The Devil Makes Three? It was easy to spot those traveling through as they were the first to hit the road when the temperature dropped. Let it be known – a May show at Red Rocks does not mean sundresses and shorts!

The Devil Makes Three’s sound is garage-y ragtime, punkified blues, old n’ new timey without settling upon a particular era. Joining them is Shakey Graves. With his new record, ‘And the War Came,’ he extends the ground—emotionally and sonically—broken by his 2011 self-released debut album, Roll the Bones. Rounding out this amazing bill is The Wood Brothers so don’t miss this show!
Winter WonderGrass – February 19th-21st – Nottingham Park, Avon
The fourth annual Winter Wondergrass Festival enraptured the small town of Avon, CO during a beautiful, bluebird weekend. In years’ past, snow, ice and freezing temperatures made the festival a struggle, but never impeded its reception. The combination of the near-perfect weather and stellar lineup made this year one of WWG’s best years yet.
Infamous Stringdusters – December 12th – Fillmore Auditorium
Dobro penetrated brick walls as I waited in line for the box office on Saturday. Inside the Fillmore Auditorium, soundcheck was unfolding for a huge night of music rooted in tradition, but tied to the heartbeat of the present. Inside, three bands, all with ties to Colorado, waited to play for the massive auditorium. There were flannels, puffy coats, vests, dresses, boots and of course, beards all there to witness a great evening of Americana that wrapped with all of the musicians onstage singing “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down.” Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that.

Innovative newgrass-jam band, The Infamous Stringdusters are coming to Fillmore Auditorium on Saturday. Their distinctive sound has helped carve their way into the bluegrass scene – rewarding them with three International Bluegrass Music Association Awards and a Grammy nomination, but their true brilliance lies in their passion for live performance.
