Rocky Mountain Folks Festival – August 14th, 15th & 16th – Lyons, CO

Ah, the sweet memory of August days spent by a babbling river in Lyons Colorado. This isn’t just a locals festival, it’s a worldwide calling. People drive up from Denver for the weekend, fly in from out of state, and even from out of the country just for this event. In many ways it’s the highlight of many people’s summers and this year’s festival again demonstrated why this festival has worked it’s way into the hearts and minds of so many.

Railroad Earth topped a triple bill last Saturday night at Red Rocks that won’t be forgetten any time soon. The headliner’s happy tribe of Hobos filled the lots and venue with a festive vibe as all three bands played outstanding, high energy sets that kept the place smiling and grooving till the early morning hours.

The Wood Brothers brought warmth and comfort to their Denver audience on what was a glacial evening last Saturday at the Gothic. The venue was aglow with sunny faces reddened from the night’s below-freezing temperatures. Rejuvenating, inspiring, and totally awesome was the trio who brought us everything from Bluegrass to Funk. Together, they are a special kind of live act: you might not have heard of them before, but within minutes of joining their audience you’ll feel like you’ve been a fan for many years.

Seeing The Wood Brothers at L2 was a memorable experience for all those present, including the musicians. Oliver had a constant monk-like look of contentment and both brothers shot glances of encouragement and respect all night while newcomer Jano Rix on Drums looked like he has been fully accepted into this family, and rightfully so.
