The Tedeschi Trucks Band at Red Rocks has become a show of the summer for many in Colorado and beyond. This melting pot of a band is nothing short of a love letter to big bands of yesteryear and there is no doubt they are the torch bearers of R&B’s legacy of groove, best seasoned by the South. The maturity and poise they bring to the stage creates a safe place to feel the music, express that feeling, and dance like no one is watching.

The 22 year old wizard of the blues, Marcus King, kicked things off with his band and damn near brought the house down. The Rocks were nearly full when he started at 5:30 and only proceeded to get more packed as the boy-genius led his band through a scorching set of horn-fueled Blues.

Tedeschi Trucks Band – July 25th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 2 min read

Last Friday night Red Rocks was the nexus of the universe for Blues lovers. With both Gary Clark Jr. and the Tedeschi Trucks Band on the bill, the hallowed Morrison venue rang with slide and echoed with deep bluesy riffs late into the night. Early on it wasn’t the Blues, but rather the sweet vintage alt-country stylings of Nicki Bluhm and the Grambers that kicked things off as showers moved in and out of the area.

Campout for the Cause – May 23rd – 25th – Rancho Del Rio

Estimated read time 10 min read

Rancho Del Rio was home to Campout for the Cause again this year. While over the years it had traveled downstream to the State Bridge venue, this year, founder and promoter, Scott Stoughton decided to return the festival to its roots by placing it back at the pseudo-shanty town/river paradise that sits against the back drop to the usually peaceful Colorado River. It didn’t turn out to be so peaceful this weekend, but we’ll get to that later.

Weather swirling around the naturally spectacular venue caused a slight delay to the start of the evening last Saturday as thunder, rain and lightning threatened from the sky. People pulled out their rain gear, but seemed generally unaffected as they awaited the start of a fantastic triple threat of music from JJ Grey, Grace Potter and Tedeschi Trucks Band.

Scott Sharrard & The Brickyard Band

Estimated read time 3 min read

Scott Sharrard is one of an increasingly rare breed of musician in today’s popular music climate. Sharrard’s music follows in the tradition of classic Rhythm and Blues, but his sound and songs are such that it still sounds fresh and vital, like its happening now. While the music is a bit more guitar-oriented, fans of the more recent wave of Rhythm and Blues groups and artists like Raphael Saadiq, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, and Tedeschi Trucks Band would definitely find a lot to enjoy here.
