Faith No More – September 8th – Red Rocks Amphitheatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

Faith No More drew the short straw with the post Labor Day holiday weekend hangover slot at Red Rocks last Tuesday. While Sol Invictus (released in May on Ipecac), the first studio album from Faith No More since 1997, certainly won’t be their most commercially successful album, it might just be their finest. This band has aged well. Hell, it feels like they never went away. Many of the songs on ‘Sol Invictus’ feel immediately at home with long time fans anxious to see how they translated to the live show.

Although Riot Fest celebrated it’s tenth anniversary this year, it was only the second year that the festival has come to Colorado. Riot Fest is one-of-a-kind festival, with carnival rides and sideshows and a wide variety of music ranging from Rock to Punk to Rap.

Campout for the Cause – May 23rd – 25th – Rancho Del Rio

Estimated read time 10 min read

Rancho Del Rio was home to Campout for the Cause again this year. While over the years it had traveled downstream to the State Bridge venue, this year, founder and promoter, Scott Stoughton decided to return the festival to its roots by placing it back at the pseudo-shanty town/river paradise that sits against the back drop to the usually peaceful Colorado River. It didn’t turn out to be so peaceful this weekend, but we’ll get to that later.

Gogol Bordello – April 29th – Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 3 min read

Colfax is the street that doesn’t sleep; open 24 hours there is always something going on. Last week the Gypsy Punk of Gogol Bordello poured out the venue doors of the Ogden Theater. Inside the crowd jumped with fists in the air as front-man Eugene Hütz whipped the crowd up into a frenzy with a stage presence that was very reminiscent of Iggy Pop. A whirling dervish, he moved in and out of the seven other band members as they played.

The Devil Makes Three is currently touring in support of their newest LP, Stomp and Smash; a live release recorded over two sold out nights in Petaluma, CA and they give new meaning to the phrase “tour machine.” They played Wakarusa in the middle of a national tour with Flogging Molly and dates with Gogol Bordello before heading to Bonnaroo. Despite their busy schedule they took some time to talk to us at Listen Up Denver! about their music, touring, and what flavor of ice cream Wakarusa would be.

Gogol Bordello – March 8th – The Ogden Theatre

Estimated read time 4 min read

A healthy mix of Mohawk sporting youth and well dressed late 20 somethings made up a bulk of the crowd at the Ogden this past Thursday night when Gogol Bordello stopped into town. The performance was a massive spectacle. A perfect mix of circus, theater, and raw, honest punk rock music. The crowd screamed along in unison, and danced relentlessly from the first note of the show until the very end. By the time it was all said and done, both the band and the crowd were drenched in sweat, and some were drenched in beer.
