Last Friday night, Daniel Donato brought his Cosmic Country band and his Allman Brothers tribute project, Trouble No More, to Cervantes’ Masterpiece Ballroom. The sold-out crowd was treated to a night of high-energy guitar wizardry, soulful vocals, and jam-packed renditions of classic songs.
Last Friday night at Cervantes’ was 4/20 Eve and there was more than just excitement in the air as the Five Points club played host to two stellar Bluegrass bands who have a long history with the Colorado, and a Disco band from Brooklyn that is known for bringing the heat.
While Telluride Bluegrass Festival is the granddaddy of music festivals in Telluride, The Ride Festival, now in its seventh year, has quickly become recognized for a diverse lineup and past heavy hitters such as Pearl Jam, Beck, and Widespread Panic. This year’s edition leaned a bit more on the jam band end of the spectrum, featuring headlining sets from The String Cheese Incident both nights of the festival.
The Listen Up Denver! crew rolled into Telluride with one simple intention: Do not take this for granted. We were in Telluride! Man, it was amazing! The weather was epic, the beer flowed freely and the music, oh the music. The footprints of musicians including Rich Robinson, Sharon Jones, and Otis Taylor dotted the stage throughout the weekend, and while the sun warmed the day, clear and starry skies cooled off the evenings and the dancing lasted till the wee hours of the morning.

Eddie Roberts, guitarist of UK Funk band The New Mastersounds, has started a series of benefit concerts to focus on various homeless issues in the US. Eddie decided to join his music with artists and organizations that are working to make a difference in the lives of others. For this weekend’s Denver shows, the guitarist will be backed up by members of The Meters, Allman Brothers Band and more! Don’t miss it!
Fox Street is playing the Bluebird Theater on Friday and they are bringing their big band sound with them. For the last 8 or 9 years, their soulful mix of Rock, Funk, and R&B swing has made them a staple of the blossoming Denver music scene. Listen Up Denver! sat down for an extensive conversation, and a few beers, with the band to get their thoughts on the group’s evolving sound, what’s to come in 2015, and what its like being in the middle of a burgeoning music scene like Denver.
Christmas arrived early at the Boulder Theater as the hallowed venue played host to a special debut performance from Hard Working Americans in the waning days of 2013. Hard Working Americans is the newest super-group to make headlines in the American music scene. The group is spearheaded by the sharp wit of singer-songwriter Todd Snider alongside bassist Dave Schools, guitarist Neal Casal, Chad Staelhy on keys and Duane Trucks on drums.
Scott Sharrard is one of an increasingly rare breed of musician in today’s popular music climate. Sharrard’s music follows in the tradition of classic Rhythm and Blues, but his sound and songs are such that it still sounds fresh and vital, like its happening now. While the music is a bit more guitar-oriented, fans of the more recent wave of Rhythm and Blues groups and artists like Raphael Saadiq, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, and Tedeschi Trucks Band would definitely find a lot to enjoy here.
